Free Secret Santa Generator (No Sign-Up)

The hat has disappeared, two couples keep drawing each other, and someone has already asked who buys for the organizer. Enter your names in this free Secret Santa generator, add the pairs who cannot draw each other, and make the draw on one device. No sign-up is needed. Names never leave this device through the tool; you decide how to share the results with people who aren't in the room.

Names never leave this device. Enable JavaScript for the private name draw, or write names on paper slips and check for self draws and excluded pairs before sharing them.

Confirm the list before anyone gets a match

Put one participant on each line. Use a first name plus an initial when two people share a name, so nobody buys for the wrong Sam. Include yourself if you're taking part. Ask for a firm yes before drawing; a maybe is not a person you can assign a gift to.

Add exclusions for couples or housemates before the draw. Treat them as two directions: neither person should receive the other. You can also block a repeat pairing from last year if your group has enough other possible matches.

A crowded exclusion list can make a draw impossible. In a group of three, blocking one person's only available recipients leaves nowhere to go. Remove an optional restriction or invite another confirmed participant, then retry. Repeated clicking cannot fix an impossible list.

Share one assignment, not the whole list

At an in-person gathering, pass the phone to each giver. They tap their own name, read their recipient, then hide the match before passing it along. Ask everyone to remember or privately note their assignment.

For paper, print the slips somewhere the group cannot read the output tray. Fold each one and hand it to the named giver. For remote groups, one trusted organizer can view all results and send each assignment privately. That organizer will know the matches, so choose the person before drawing.

Don't screen-share the organizer list on a video call. Close the page only after every assignment has been delivered; the tool doesn't keep a saved name list for you to return to later.

Set the spending rule and the no-show plan

Send these details with the invitation, while people can still opt in:

  • One spending cap in the group's agreed currency, with postage handled explicitly.
  • A gift handover date, or a mailing deadline for remote participants.
  • A short wish list and a place to note gift restrictions privately.
  • The organizer's contact for a late parcel, absence or withdrawal.

For an office, make participation optional and keep the budget comfortable for the lowest spender. Leave joke gifts about a colleague's body, beliefs or performance out of the exchange. If someone misses the party, label and hold their gift; attendance and participation are separate lists.

The Secret Santa Pass the Prize printable is a separate circle activity for the gathering after your draw. It suits 6 to 12 players and takes about five minutes. Use one small wrapped prize for that round, and keep your assigned Secret Santa gifts aside for their named recipients.

Questions and answers

How do I draw Secret Santa names online without a hat?

Enter each participant on a separate line, add any exclusions, and draw. Each person reveals their own match on the shared device, or the organizer prints and folds the slips.

Can anyone draw their own name or their partner?

The draw prevents self-matches. Add both directions for a couple: Alex cannot draw Jo, and Jo cannot draw Alex. If your restrictions leave no valid draw, adjust the group or exclusions before trying again.

Does this generator email the matches?

It does not send emails or invitations. For a remote exchange, one trusted organizer privately sends each assignment through the group's usual messaging channel.

What if someone drops out after the draw?

Before shopping starts, confirm the remaining names and draw again. If gifts have already been bought, contact the affected givers privately and arrange a replacement or agreed handoff instead of redrawing everyone.
